About Us

We cannot talk about the history of Refúgio da Calada without talking a little about me. My name is Catarina Figueiredo, I'm a veterinarian, I grew up in the countryside and I've always had dogs. When our family grew, we made the decision to move to the countryside and raise our daughters in this environment. We recovered, and continue to recover, an agricultural property, where we live, which we adapted to the concept of a dog hotel. It's been a wonderful journey that allows us to do what we love most... Making dogs happy! 

We are a dog hotel with a slightly different concept than usual. We are more of a summer camp! The idea is that the dogs roam free for as long as possible, socializing. We have a system of paddocks (large fenced areas) where the boxes have access. They have free access to the paddock and other dogs' boxes. This means they can spend the day playing, smelling everything, exploring, sleeping... socializing! They arrive at the end of the day tired and relaxed. As a rule, separation anxiety dissipates very quickly. 
We also give long walks around the property, we want tired and satisfied dogs!
